title

The BVPH Rapid Test Cassette (Vaginal Swab) is a rapid colorimetric assay for the qualitative detection of elevated vaginal pH in vaginal swab specimens to aid in the diagnosis of Bacterial Vaginosis (BV).

Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is a common gynecological condition caused by an imbalance in the normal vaginal microbiota, characterized by a decrease or disappearance of the dominant Lactobacillus species and overgrowth of Gardnerella vaginalis, anaerobes, and Mycoplasma hominis. BV is typically characterized by increased vaginal discharge with a fishy odor. The diagnosis of BV is based on the Amsel criteria, in which a vaginal fluid pH greater than 4.5 is one of the key diagnostic indicators. A healthy vaginal environment is normally acidic, with a pH value typically between 3.8 and 4.5, maintained by lactic acid produced by Lactobacillus. When the vaginal pH rises above 4.5, it indicates a disruption of the normal vaginal flora and is highly suggestive of BV.

The BVPH Rapid Test Cassette (Vaginal Swab) utilizes a colorimetric pH indicator (such as nitrazine yellow or bromocresol green) coated on the reaction pad. When contacted with a vaginal fluid sample at or above pH 4.7, the test area produces a distinct greenish-blue color change within one minute against a yellow background, indicating an elevated pH level. When contacted with a vaginal fluid sample lower than pH 4.7, the test area remains yellow or shows only a greenish-blue procedural control dot, indicating a normal acidic pH level.
